China is the 7th country to be released to the July 2010 squad! My teammates and I are stoked to know another destination where we will be serving God’s people.
My first summer of mission trips in 2007, right after I graduated college, brought me to Far South Eastern China. I spent a week in Nanning, then a week traveling to villages from there to Northern Vietnam. I fell in love with the country side there, and the gentle people we met and witnessed to throughout our two weeks spent there.
I was part of a large group, a mix of 18 college students and adults. The majority of our time was spent in ‘Friendship Evangelism’. We met locals our age at ‘English Corners’ (these are gatherings at restauraunts, coffee shops, etc. where Mandarin-speaking people go to practice their English), and pursued spending time with them through out the week. It was awesome spending time with locals, meeting their friends and family members in their comfort zones, and having opportunities to witness and share the gospel.
We were fortunate to not encounter troubles from their government, as evangelism is illegal there. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to see where God will place me there again, and to learn what he has in store for my squad!
Here are a few pictures from my previous trip –
We spent a night and two days with the Black Zhuang villagers. This was about as far south as you can get in Eastern China, the next mountain range over from us was the border for North Vietnam.
The children were my favorite part!
I met these guys in a village north of the previous one we were staying in. They were amazed by big white people walking around and LOVED to see themselves in our digital cameras…so we took lots of pictures like this one to show them what they look like.
