Lost in Translation

Lost in Translation is usually
an understatement when it comes to The World Race. Things you say and do are
constantly taken the wrong way and things we are told are most likely not the
whole truth or everything we need to know. Today was no different.

We were told that the pastor’s
wife was going to pick us up and take us to the church and we were going to take public transport to the church we were working with today. We didn’t know what time but were ready when the pastor
himself showed up then followed by his wife 20 min later and then we sat and waited for the car that was going to take us.

The car arrived and once we were
on our way the pastor asked if we were aware of the program. We said that there
was someone to preach “that’s it right? He said no. We were in charge of an
hour long sermon, and 20 min encouragement, then we were having lunch then a 2
HOUR childrens program! Our jaws dropped we were prepared for the sermon and
then to leave after church. Guess not!

We got to church, Bethany gave a
20min encouragement, I preached for almost an hour, and Tricia gave the
benediction. We went to lunch where it took 20 min to order something and we
didn’t even get what we wanted. Then went and sat in some random dudes house to
“rest We looked at picture albums and tried to talk in Spanish so the Ugandans
didn’t know how awkward we felt.

After that we went and did
about 1 hour of a childrens program. It went really well but wasn’t as long as
they liked. Then we finally returned home around 5:30 pm after leaving at 8:30
am. It was long day and we were all exhausted and confused how a one hour sermon turned into an 9 hour day.

This is just a taste of the
millions of times things are lost in translation on the World Race! Good times!
