Milo in Malaysia

So, Malaysia has this chocolate milk/hot chocolate drink that
they advertise as a sports drink that is not sports drink quality at all. It’s
chocolate! It was the first thing I drank, in a local Mamak stall just down the
road from where we are staying in IPOH. It’s everywhere! On billboards, in our
cupboards, all over the stores and even in vending machines.

Speaking of which there is one right next to me, as I write, in
the waiting area  of Ward 2B in
Fatimah Hospital in Ipoh, Malaysia.
The Hospital! I know it all started a couple of days ago…

Chandler wasn’t feeling so good. She said that her stomach
hurt. We just thought it was the usual case of “I don’t know what I ate last
nightâ€  and just brushed it off as
a stomach ache.  The next day she
still wasn’t feeling well and spent most of the day sleeping. We told Chandra
(who was a lady that worked at Bethany Home) and on Monday evening Chandler
went to a doctor in Simpang Empat the town which Bethany Home is in to see what
was up.

When they returned, Chandler said that they did some simple
tests and they thought that is was appendicitis. After some phone calls home it
was decided that she should go back to Ipoh in the morning to see a better
doctor. I volunteered to go along and then the packing began. We made arrangements
with Chandra and we’re leaving at 6:25 am to go to Telak Intan to get the bus.

In the morning we took the van to the bus station, got our
tickets and jumped on the 7am bus to Ipoh. We got to Ipoh a little before 9am
and grabbed a taxi to the office and Voon Li met us there. Chandler and Voon Li
went straight into Dr. William’s office, which is conveniently located right
under Voon Li’s office.

They did an ultra sound and confirmed that it was appendicitis
and that she needed to have it removed ASAP. Some more phone calls home then we
were off to the hospital. After the paperwork and everything was done, Chandler
was taken up to room 273 in Ward 2B.
She got a 4 person room for the low cost of 65 Ringetts.  They did some more tests and then got
her in a gown and bam she was wheeled off with the promise of being back in an
hour.

I followed them out and taxied back to the office to pick up
the rest of our things and go back to the house to organize stuff and repack.
Then Taxi back.  I got back to the
hospital with time to spare and therethe Milo vending machine and I sat.  I was really craving a glass at that
point in time and made noteto have one later. (and I did)

Chandler cameout of surgery. Everything went well! And after
a couple of days of rest and some yucky porridge and hot Milo she was
discharged with appendix in hand. I’m staying back with her in Ipoh so that she
can rest for a couple of days before traveling to Thailand.
