Malaysia is a melting pot of nationalities and religions. This blog is a melting pot of my experience so far.
I can’t believe it is coming near to the end of the month and
I haven’t been able to share with you yet! It has been a crazy month and I’m
going to touch on just couple of areas that have been part of my Malaysian
experience. We’ve been working with a social justice organization in Ipoh
Malaysia. Helping teach English to migrant workers, teaching in a school, and
helping out churches in the area with childrens ministry and services.
And then there were six…
This month
is all about the changes. Due to some personal reasons our team leader Cody
stepped down from leadership and Chief Cha-Cha (Chandler) took the reigns.
Later on, on the same day we found out that he had decided to go home. Thus in
a matter of 24hrs we had to say good-bye to our leader and team mate install a
new leader and then try to flawlessly tackle our ministries. Piece of cake,
NOT! So as the title states we are now six. Silas is the only guy which is a
struggle for both genders at times, but I finally feel like our team is at a
good place and is closer to making it great.
Joy Comes in the Clouds (picture to come)
Yet again this month God has
been trying to teach me a lot about experiencing joy. I spent most of the month
searching for it. On one my
grumpiest, joyless days we were taking the students to a near by park in the RAIN.
I was not happy but brought along the Frisbee to try and make the most of it.
It was AWESOME! For the first time in a long time I was able to swing without
getting an upset stomach. I just let the rain pour down not worrying about getting
wet. We played Frisbee and ran around. It had been a while since I’ve been seen
skipping around with a smile on my
face and just laughing because I could. It
was exactly what the doctor ordered.
*spell check makes you
capitalize Frisbee. Weird.
5 pounds of food!
So, the organization that we have been working with set us up
with many churches in the area to either speak at the services, run the
children’s ministry or to just share some testimonies. The org. also told them that they
should at least repay us by taking us for drinks or to eat or something. So all
month it feels like we have just been eating. Don’t get me wrong we have been
eating a lot of good food. I can not emphasize the A LOT part enough though. I
jumped on a scale at Bethany Home and it said about 5lbs more then the last
time I was on a scale. So how can I remember Malaysia? FOOD. Spicy, noodles,
rice, soups, roti, nan, fried everything, and so much more.
