We Love Change!
It was our motto in Peru because it seemed like any plan we made eventually changed. It also may have been because we had a bad attitude about never having anything set in stone and our leaders wanted us to profess what wasn’t as though it was. While that may not have worked at the time, for me at least, it still rings in my head to this day whenever something doesn’t go as planned.
Last time (two times ago?) we were here, I told you about my route change. I would be going to Greece and Bosnia instead of Macedonia and Bulgaria. I was so excited to find out I’d be able to go to Greece, but was skeptical about Bosnia since it was never on my radar.
Well guess what? Another route change! We love change, remember?
I’m still going to Greece (praise the Lord!) but I won’t be going to Bosnia anymore. I also won’t be going to Cambodia which I’m super sad about because I’ve grown fond of being able to serve there. Instead of those countries, we’ll be adding a whole new continent to our race! I’ll be going to Africa for two months! The only country in Africa that I’ve ever thought of wanting to serve in was Swaziland unless you count South Africa, but that’s purely for selfish motives (I hear there are penguins at the tip of SA!) so really just one country. I won’t be going to either of those, but I will be going to Uganda and Rwanda.
My prayer to God lately has been to not let me get comfortable. Both He and I know that when I get comfortable, I become complacent and when I become complacent, I start to set my identity in that which is comfortable. I’ve done that with ministry and school before so I’ve been particularly intentional about setting my focus on God and whatever else may come will come.
This change, while unsettling, has reminded me of what I’ve prayed for. I don’t want my affirmation or identity to come from this mission trip, but in God alone. I want to remember that Jesus is the prize and everything else comes second to that. Whether I serve in Greece or Cambodia or Timbuktu, it’s all for the glory of God and I will grow where I’m planted.
So, the new route is as follows (tentatively):
Mongolia
China
Malaysia
Thailand
Uganda
Rwanda
Albania
Greece
Guatemala
Honduras
El Salvador
