Last Sunday was Father’s day and due to lack of internet and sickness I was unable to post a blog about a man who holds a very special place in my heart. Sorry for the delay daddy, but better late than never.
My father is sometimes a man of little words and emotions but I have always known that his actions speak louder than words. Like father, like daughter, I am also not the biggest fan of words, but since I am not home to serve him, words will have do!
My father is a man of humility and service.
His heart to serve and love others shaped the way that I live my life and connect with the Lord. My desire to serve on the mission field started as a kid when I would participate in service projects with my dad. He showed me what it looked like to serve like Christ. This example of servanthood stirred my mission minded heart to want more.
Growing up I would see him give of his time and money without ever asking anything in return. Our family would spend time at Christmas serving with the Salvation Army because my parents didn’t want the kids in our community to go without a warm meal and a stocking of goodies.
My father serves wholeheartedly and loves well.
We are commanded in the Bible to GO and make disciples. My father made our hometown his mission field and continues to serve them, but he also found a way to serve and love our family. He is a leader in our home and a king in my princess castle! I am a daddy’s girl, because my daddy ROCKS!
He has been my volleyball coach, barista, driving teacher, guidance counselor, cook, and so much more!
When I didn’t make the volleyball team in middle school my dad took me to our church grounds and spent hours helping me practice and learn to serve. He taught me to never give up and 5 years later I was playing volleyball in college.
He gave me my love of coffee at a young age when he let me drink his black coffee at our church’s petting zoo. That one sip made me a coffee addict for life and I am so grateful for it!
He taught me to drive and bravely sat next to me as I crashed into gutters and learned to parallel park. He literally took the wheel when I freaked out during a driving lesson. Luckily he gets to do this again when I get home from the race!
My father has a unique way of taking ordinary moments
and turning them into lifelong traditions.
He found a way to make breakfast at Burger King seem like a princess going to tea at a castle. BK lounge dates were hands-down my favorite father daughter moments because it was our time. It was all about us and it felt like the world would stop every time we sat down for french toast sticks and cinaminis. Thankfully some traditions never end!
He always made me feel like the luckiest little girl in the world.
Daddy, thank you for being a man of God that has always made me feel loved and special. I appreciate the small things you do and the big ways that you have influenced Ashton and me. Your heart to serve shaped the way I live my life, and I am grateful that you led me to be more like Christ. Thanks for the years of laughs. You always find a way to bring a smile to my face and life into our family.
Happy Father’s Day! I love you and miss you!
