Tomorrow apparently is Thanksgiving.  Which means something along the lines of 7ish weeks or so before Launch.  Man, how time flies!  It doesn't seem like long ago, I was punching the "submit" button for my World Race application.

Anywho, I've been thinking about putting up a post with the whole Thanksgiving/giving thanks theme to it, but wasn't really wanting to just list out a bunch of "stuff."  God knows I've plenty to be thankful for.  During my lunch break, I ended up going home to grab a bite to eat.  The plan was a sandwich.  Said plan ended up being derailed upon the discovery of half a moldy loaf of bread.  No worries, I did manage to find something else in the cupboards.  I sit down for lunch and grab my Bible hoping to get through a few chapters of Psalms which I've been reading through lately.  I'd left off at Psalm 91, read through it, and didn't manage to get any farther than that.  Something about Psalm 91 really struck me, so I want to share that now.

Psalm 91

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
      will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
 2 This I declare about the Lord:
   He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
      he is my God, and I trust him.
 3 For he will rescue you from every trap
      and protect you from deadly disease.
 4 He will cover you with his feathers.
      He will shelter you with his wings.
      His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
      nor the arrow that flies in the day.
 6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
      nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
 7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
      though ten thousand are dying around you,
      these evils will not touch you.
 8 Just open your eyes,
      and see how the wicked are punished.

 9 If you make the Lord your refuge,
      if you make the Most High your shelter,
 10 no evil will conquer you;
      no plague will come near your home.
 11 For he will order his angels
      to protect you wherever you go.
 12 They will hold you up with their hands
      so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
 13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
      you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

 14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
      I will protect those who trust in my name.
 15 When they call on me, I will answer;
      I will be with them in trouble.
      I will rescue and honor them.
 16 I will reward them with a long life
      and give them my salvation.”

I read that through a few times and it really hit me that there are really only two things that I need to be thankful for.  God's grace and God's promises to us.  I think that right there just about covers all of it.

Father I thank you for Your grace and promises for my life.  Thank you for the gift of Your Son.  For protection and safety when the enemy attacks.  For courage when I am scared.  For family and for community when I feel alone. For strength when I am weak.  For a stronger faith when I begin to doubt.  For unconditional love and forgiveness when I screw up.   For nourishment when I am hungry or thirsty.  For a place to rest when I am weary.  For You.

 Be sure that you are thanking the One who really deserves the thanks this Thanksgiving.

And for my guilty pleasure, I'm also thankful for ice cream.  yes
