It's been nearly a month since my last post of any kind on here.  I've wanted to put something up for awhile.  Once or twice I've opened the page to put together a blog post.  And then I'd just sit there and stare at it.  The blank page.  Wanting to say something profound, yet nothing came forth.  Seeing as I've now posted a new blog after a few attempts, don't just assume I have something profound now to say.  You've been warned.  🙂  At this point, I'm not sure what direction this will end up heading, especially considering the late hour, but maybe that's the beauty of it.

Writing just to write.  No end goal in mind.  Falling into flow.  Flow.  Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.  I promise you that's not another language right there.  He's a psychologist, though very well known and a favorite as well within the world of recreation and leisure.  Mihaly developed this idea, concept, theory, or whatever you want to call it of "flow."  What is it?  Csikszentmihalyi describes it as "being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you're using your skills to the utmost."  I know that at some point within our lives we have all experienced this.  Where you become totally lost, in a positive way, in whatever it is you are doing.

I desire FLOW.  I do.  But not as an activity.  Not in something like running a marathon, vegging in front of the TV, or playing jazz.  In Csikszentmihalyi's defnition, he presents "flow" as being associated with "an activity."  What if we tweeked that just a bit so we remove the general term of "an activity," and instead insert something like "worship of God," or "our relationship with Christ?"  How great is that then?  You lose your sense of time.  Your ego just falls to the wayside.  Your whole being is focused right on Him.  I desire "flow" in that sense.  Sounds like a beautiful thing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 simply states, "Pray without ceasing."  Not, "pray right before you go to bed" or "pray before smashing your lunchtime hamburger."  If you are in a constant state of prayer or dialogue with God, that seems like a step towards flow.  Thanking Him for the blessing you see through out your day.  Asking for wisdom or guidance on the decisions, big or small, through out your day.  Acknowledging His works in your life, the little ways that He shows up every day, or taking a moment to appreciate the beautiful things in life that can't come from anywhere but above.  Making known our desire to have our own egos, wants, and desires be set aside for something beyond ourselves.  Involve prayer throughout your whole day.  Let it happen.

Just let it flow.

God Bless.
