Hunger struck and since there were no snickers bars nearby I settled for the next best alternative: cereal. When I went to open the box I noticed this:
That’s right, there’s only a few precious days left before the dreaded Expiration(“Better if used by”) date. Seeing this narrowed timeline left me with one urgent thought: Eat this box before it goes bad.
Challenge accepted.
I suppose most folks aren’t met with this sort of “crisis” on the daily, but mom is a serial couponer and perishable or not if there’s a sale, there’s a reason to stockpile(I love you, mom!).
Taking a step back I noticed that there was a real sense of urgency, because I suddenly realized that time was running out. Having finished another semester, the push is to embrace every ounce of laziness that break offers. As much as rest (and waiting) are important, why not live with just a pinch more urgency?
I’m not talking about the crazy, gung-ho, Americanized, hyper drive, road raging, Black Friday urgency. I’m talking about mustering enough to desire to do something rather than nothing.
Here’s this:
Let’s stop being so possessive about time–You can’t own it! It’s not something that was intended to be stockpiled.
Let’s make “someday” today. “Someday” is where dreams go to rot and die (Jon Acuff). “Someday I’ll do this… Someday I’ll do that….” Today is someday.
Will you see the things yearning for urgency in your life?
What does it look like?
Who is apart of it?
There it is, that’s my challenge to anyone willing to take up the torch with me. Tomorrow is not promised, something great awaits us today!
Are you in?
