Kelibogile

Keli is about a year and a half old I think. She’s HIV positive, and I just learned or figured out that kids at that age should be able to walk. Well, keli doesn’t even sit up on her own, much less crawl, stand or walk. Somebody told me that having HIV (or obviously maybe some other kind of learning disability or something…i don’t know) can stunt a child’s progression with learning to walk and all that.

So…I decided to try to teach her to at least be able to sit up on her own. I’ve begun to get her to do it…and in that first picture she’s actually doing it……for a little bit:) It’s funny watching her wobble back and forth and slowly lean forward. After a little bit of it, she’ll start to wimper, so I either lay her back down or put her in my lap.

But it’s been cool though to even see a person sit up under their own power for the first time, and to have helped them do it.

She’s a fat little baby, man! 🙂

On Monday, the caregivers put on a birthday party for Dineo (below) and Sheilar. I didn’t get over to it until the end (cuz I was asleep in a chair and nobody woke me up!), but I just sat for a little while and watched Dineo play with her new doll, (that actually pees!) as a bunch of other kids looked on in awe.

This is little Shielar

Mary. She always asks for rides on my neck…we just found out that she is not even 4 yet! We all thought she was at least 5. But, she’s a really cool kid.

Josh recently learned that there was a game park (wildlife refuge) within about 10 minutes from where we are living. And Josh is ALL about the game parks and big animals. He and Tim had gone over to it a few days earlier and raved about it.

It is pretty neat, especially since it’s so dang close. There aren’t any predator animals there (except a rare leopard perhaps) so you are allowed to walk anywhere in the park. (we think……and we did)

It was just the three of us guys this time, so it was some good guy time.

That’s it for now….there’s more pictures in PICTURES YO!

We are currently in Johannesburg having a last hurrah before Brienna heads up to Kenya and leaves the Race. We will be back in Pretoria on the 27th for debrief…then leave for Bangkok on the 1st of August.

Ciao!
