My team is staying in a house above a bakery that makes breads and flan. We call it the flan house. I actually don’t like flan…but it smells great when you first walk in the door. We are staying with team 61, Clinton and two translators: Jorge and Dana. (Dana is out sick right now though) It’s great accomadations and it’s really cool to be living with 61.
I’ve been meeting with Jimmy McCarty from time to time as a kind of discipleship thing. I’ve loved it and have learned a lot from him already.
Lima is a desert climate. I had no idea it was gonna be like that. It gets about 2 inches of rain a year. Apparently all the rain gets caught in the Andes and never makes it here. Funny though, because Clinton was sleeping on the roof last night, and had to come inside because it rained. 🙂

That big door right in front of the bus is the door to the church.

Israel (no head), Robert (one of our translators), Clinton and Eric as we were getting a taxi to go look at the two houses we were going to stay at.
Our main ministry while we are here is planting a church and actually building the church in a few days, in a section called Lomo de Corvina. We went up there yesterday for the first time and just walked around and met some people. I ended up talking to a couple ladies with another one of our translators, Amalia, and I ended up praying for one of them to accept Christ, and then Amalia prayed for the other one to do the same thing. Great news eh! The thing is…yeah, i was a little excited about it…but not nearly as much as I thought I would be or want to be for something like that. Ya know?
That’s kind of been a common theme for me on this trip so far: lack of passion for what I’m doing. I’m pretty darn sure that I am not ultimately being called to short term missions of any kind. I sometimes still feel like I am called to long term missions perhaps, but how do you still do the kinds of things we are doing when you don’t really like it or enjoy it and are pretty sure that it’s not what your gifted in or called to?
I think you just do it.
I very well may not enjoy much of the ministry that I am going to do this year…but I’m pretty sure that isn’t the point of this trip. The point of this trip is for God to teach you things about yourself and about your calling and teaching us the things we need to learn before we go onto whatever is next in our lives. Teaching us how to love all kinds of people in the world, and being ok with doing and obeying the things that GOD wants us to do that WE might not want to do. That make sense?
That’s one thing I am learning right now.
Another thing I’m learning is to believe God’s promises more and more…and resisting the lies of Satan in my head! I don’t know how I still let those nasty lies like, ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I can’t do this’ or ‘this isn’t what I want to be doing right now’…creep into my head. But I’m learning how to combat those things with the truths of God’s word. It’s tough though. This year is freakin tough.
We had a big lunch at a restaurant with all of team B & A on St. Patrick’s day. They ended up getting cakes and singing happy birthday to the 5 of us whose birthdays are in March. (mine is the 23rd!) You guys don’t actually get to see any pictures of me, so here’s a few:

I was pretending to back-hand talia in this picture cuz she was making it seem like it was her birthday or something. I mean gees. 🙂 (thank you chris youell or Jimmy for these pictures. I can’t remember who it was.)

This is team B leaving to go to the mountains for the month. It was sad to see them go. But we’ll see them in MACCHU PICCHU!
Here’s some straggler pictures of our debrief in Nicaragua. And we flew from Managua to Lima, via Panama City. So here’s two pictures from our layover in Panama too.

I think I counted either 17 or 18 laptops that we all had out in the airport. Crazy.

Meagan sleeping. awwwww……

Right on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.

Ometepe Island & Volcano
STAY TUNED for some pictures of two schools we went into this morning where we shared the gospel to a few hundred kids all together. It was cool.
And I’m sick yet again with the sinus/nose/throat/lung/fever/weakness thing. So just say a quick prayer for me if ya will. Gracias.
