During our last 3 weeks or so here in Antigua Team L.O. had to find our own ministries to do. Except for a few things, we’ve all mostly done our own thing. I wrote about this in a prior post, but I’ve been volunteering some at a hospital, called Hermano Pedro, for mentally and physically disabled people. I’ve also done a little volunteering at a school called Escuela Integrada; teaching a little English and playing with em during their P.E. class. I took Spanish lessons for a week and played soccer with some church people on Sundays.

In the last week and a half or so, I’ve been spending most of my time doing some graphic design projects, (re-doing at brochure/tract, and designing the type part of a logo) doing some type painting for Higher Grounds and re-doing one of their menu chalkboards.

Clinton has been generous enough to let me use his camera whenever I’ve asked, while I’ve been waiting for my new lens, so thank you Clinton.

ESCUELA INTEGRADA

I’m tellin ya…there is something about kindergarten kids that I LOVE! It obviously started in Japan, but I felt the love again with some of the kids in this class. When I went to gym with them a week ago at a big field & complex, towards the end I was just playing with them and sitting on the ground and they started jumping on me and all this…and I FREAKIN LOVED IT!!! anyway, here’s two of the four pictures I have of that class.

I went back yesterday (friday) to do gym with them for a little while, but I found out that they sent the whole school home early because the water was off. I was bummed, but Angela here, who was the one I most wanted to see again and get a picture of, just happened to still be at school waiting for her parents. What d’ya know!

HERMANO PEDRO

This is the hospital for mentally and physically handicapped people. I volunteered with the old guys, and here’s some pictures I took on friday.

I couldn’t understand what his name was, but he was funny. He’s totally a grandpa type. Our little thing was giving each other a thumbs up. And he was funny because he would do the  ‘pointer finger hand motion thing around his ear that means crazy’ about some of the other guys in there.

This is my friend Otto. I couldn’t communicate with him very well, but he always seemed to be somewhat glad when he saw me.

This is Matilde.

This guy was a walker and always grabbed my arm and walked me alongside himself. As I took this picture he was trying to grab the camera, so I gave him my hand instead.

during lunch.

To be honest, most of the time I spent there…I didn’t love it or really enjoy it, but I didn’t hate it either by any means. But I did enjoy feeding them their food during lunch.

ARTSY PROJECTS

Here’s the English version of the logo I did. She’s (Larenda. Clinton interviewed her and wrote a blog about her and her ministry she’s going to start, so go read that if you want) having someone else do the illustration part of it.

Here’s the before-ish shot of the painting project. The project was to paint “Bienvenidos A YWAM Antigua’ over this doorway.

here’s Candice keeping me company as I painted at 12:30 the other night. 🙂

Here’s the finished product!

and then here’s their chalkboard menu I re-did. Before it was all in cursive and mostly the same color and hard to read.

I haven’t finished the brochure thing yet, so i can’t show you that.

I just added a picture of Pastor Salvador from Livingston in that last post about Justine, so be sure to put a face to that name.

STAY TUNED…for news and hopefully PICTURES!!!! on debrief in Nicaragua and PERU!
