Undertow – the steady return current beneath approaching waves.

A common theme became evident during the 10 days at camp. Over and over throughout the squad God spoke to us with images of water. Specifically immeasurable deep water in reference to how immeasurable deep His love is towards us.

So why “Undertow?” Undertow is the name Abba gave my team. He gave each of us a piece of the vision and has already began fulfilling it!

The vision behind “Undertow” it two fold

(The vision for where He currently has us)

Imagine yourself standing on the shore of an ocean you look out into the unreachable depth of the sea which represents the unknown that God is calling you to step into. You hear His call and step out into the waves further and further. Then it hits you, a huge wave, and you’re soaked in his love. Before you realize the “undertow” current has you and is pulling you out deeper into the sea.  You find Him, you find love, in the unknown.

(The vision for where He’s taking us)

Now the second fold of this is:
You’re back on the beach and each grain of sand represents a lost and hurting child of God. Then a wave crashes onto the shore and it reaches out beyond the waterline. There is a point where it loses its forward momentum and stops this is when the “undertow” begins. At first it’s just water rushing back to the sea. But then it picks up a grain of sand. Then another. Before Long the undertow is so strong that the water becomes brown with all the sand it has picked up. Then as the undertow slows down it drops the sand into the ocean of his love. And the whole thing starts again with another wave eventually eroding the entire shore.

There is a beach full of sand waiting. Waiting and longing to be carried away by the undertow.
