Howdy!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
To expand on the about me section:
In middle school (7th and 8th grade) Christ United Methodist of College Station, Tx took junior high and high school students to perform missions in Reynosa, Mexico near McAllen, Texas for Spring Break. The first year I was there it was difficult for me to communicate and understand people because I knew little to no Spanish. We dug a trench for a playground fence, built a 20’X20′ house made of cinder blocks, and lead Vacation Bible School in Spanish for the local youth (3-12 year olds). It was an eye opening trip that was heart-breaking because of the poverty and how it affected the youth in the community.
The second time I went, we had more people and bigger plans. We built two 20’X20′ houses out of wood and built the lower half of a smaller church with cinder blocks. This time I knew a little Spanish, but still had a hard time grasping the problems and effect poverty and lack of resources the community had. Leading Vacation Bible School was amazing and I had a great time playing Pato, Pato, Gonzo (Duck, Duck, Goose) with all of the kids.
My time in Mexico was short, but it taught me what missions are all about. I enjoyed spreading his Word and doing His works. It was a life changing experience that will impact me for the rest of my life! I look forward to being in Central and South America for 11 months working and speaking Spanish. I look forward to where God takes me and where he leads me on this journey!
