Millimani Backpackers – Nairobi, Kenya – excerpt from my journal today.
-Debrief starts tomorrow, I've been here for a few days now, hanging out with Kayla and Tom, meeting new people. Two brothers cycling from egypt down back to South Africa, two guys from Malawi that Know Brian! It's craziness. I have been reading the word a lot, Hewbrews, James, 1 Peter. I just started 2 Peter this morning. I feel so much more alive while I'm in the living word. I have come to see that there are so many lost souls! Jesus is real, the gospel isn't a "cleverly devised story," the bible isn't "out of date," yes you say you believe in something bigger, but can't come to believe in anything. It terrifies me, it makes my stomach uneasy, nervous, I break. The world is so lost, NGo's, other projects, Amen for them. But without Christ you're putting a band-aid on something eternal. All I can do is walk out 1 Peter 3:15.
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. (2 Peter 1:16-18 NIV)
