This is what the Lord gave me today and I wanted to pass it along to everyone out there. Most of this is coming out of my journal.

Folks let me tell ya, my eyes have betrayed me! Not in a lustful, girl way, although I do have to always guard to make sure my glance doesn’t turn into a stare. But what I’m talking about is my daily focus – my eyes have betrayed me because they have strayed from Jesus.

As the servant leader for this team it’s been very easy to get caught up in the details. Something ALWAYS needs to be done, decided, planned, paid for, worked out, talked over, announced, etc. Now, I do have a wonderful group of folks who have stepped up to help me in these duties. And I’m so thankful for that. But lately my focus has been on the details – not on Him.

This morning God threw these two verses out at me.

“Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

   –         Proverbs 4:25-27

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”

         Hebrews 12:2a

One of the things I pray daily for is wisdom and spiritual discernment. Here’s the next verse He gave me:

“A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”

         Proverbs 17:24

Alright, so if I want discernment I have to keep “wisdom in view.” OK, so what is wisdom? One of the girls on this trip talked one morning about Proverbs 8. It’s the “wisdom” chapter so to say. But if you go and read it you’ll see that the “wisdom” talked about is actually Jesus. He embodies wisdom. It’s crazy! Check it out sometime. It reads like the Gospels. Anyway, I’m getting off track. The point is a discerning man keeps Jesus in his view. So in essence the answer God has given me when I ask for discernment is to set my gaze on His Son.

So that’s where I’m at right now, chewing on these verses – meditating on Jesus, on His characteristics. I’m making a covenant with my eyes – keep them on Him. As long as I put my focus on Jesus and His Kingdom – I’ll begin to reflect His character.
