We were asked to write how we
were called to the mission field so, here we go.
I’ve always had a heart of compassion for
others and their needs. When I was a small kid (I don’t remember this, my mom
told me) I would see people who were handicapped in the store and I would just
start crying. Although I had a heart of compassion I didn’t have the desire to
go out and do mission work. I was comfortable at home. I didn’t want to have to
go and see others hurting. When I was 18 I went on my first mission trip (we
went to Mexico).
Sadly to say it was kind of selfish on my part. The only reason I went was so I
could get to know people not really because I wanted to. During that trip my
life changed forever. God grabbed my heart and said this is what I made you
for.
After that one week experience I was on
fire for quite awhile but as in everything if you’re not staying close to the
Lord that fire dies down. During the two years that followed that trip I was in
a time of doubting my Savior and my salvation. I still thought about missions
and I still wanted to go but it was more of a works based mindset on salvation.
I felt I needed to do something to make myself worthy.
At 20 (as I mentioned in my bio) I went to
Ecola Bible School.
Through the Romans class I found assurance in Christ. I also found in my heart
a new desire and passion to go out and serve. Not because I have to (in fact He
doesn’t even need me to) but because I want to spend the rest of my life
serving the One who gave everything for me.
God took me on two more trips to Mexico with
Ecola. Between those trips and a good friend feeding me many missionary
biographies my desire to go back and continue serving is very strong. I feel extremely
privileged at the fact that He is taking me to places around the world but at
the same time I am privileged to be here in my home and work place sharing His
love with others.
