My name is Robin Taylor, I'm a 25 year old from NJ, and I feel like the Lord is calling me to full-time missions. The World Race ministry through a non-profit organization called Adventures In Missions is where it's at for me. It encompasses some desires I've had since birth such as helping people whenever/however possible and experiencing other countries' cultures throughout the world. It encompasses some aspects that others might find crazy, scary, or even dangerous at times… but those very same things also incorporate everything I want to do, the types of places I want to go, the types of people I want to help, and the types of things I've wanted to document either as a career or on my own through pictures, videos, and stories of the people I meet along the way. During college, I majored in Communications for radio/tv work and really moreso video work than tv. I loved all of my audio, video, and photo classes and it was around that time when I really felt my passion for these art forms come alive and gain a direction. I love working on projects from start to finish to help tell a story, particularly in documentary form to bring awareness to situations. People should never be allowed to claim ignorance to what's going on in the world, both overseas and right here in America! There's no excuse for ignorance when it's caused by people purposely turning a blind eye to what's really happening just because they aren't the one it's happening to! There's never an excuse! I want to be able to come home and place names and stories to the faces people see so that more people will hopefully be called to action. Two of my life sayings (especially these last few years) has been "it is what it is" and "w/e happens, happens" which couldn't apply anymore to this race. I'm already blown away just by the way things have already fallen into place and how many ways big and small this race is everything I've ever wanted/needed with a trip, I can barely fathom how much better it will be to actually get out onto the mission field w/ my squad. I know it won't always be easy, but God never said it'd be easy; He just promised it'd be worth it! In fact, when Jesus tells us to "take up our cross and follow Him" having an easy life is the exact opposite of what He's saying. He's telling us that it will be hard, uncomfortable, and that we'll sometimes even be hurt or killed for doing what we're called to do! He wasn't talking about just wearing a chain around our neck that happens to have a cross on it. He wasn't talking about creating a small clique w/in our church or youth group and shutting off the rest of the world. He was talking about living out loud for Him ALL THE TIME W/ ALL WE MEET REGARDLESS OF THE COST!
My first mission trip was to Chicago w/ my high school youth group in the summer of 2002. I went to a small Southern Baptist Christian liberal arts college in NC and during that time, I went on 2 international mission trips. I was part of a ministry team that worked primarily w/ Deaf individuals and their families at 2 schools and a church in Honduras in 2006 and both Deaf and hearing students in El Salvador with a team in 2008. They were both Spring break trips in which we spread the love of Christ, taught sign language, played games, made crafts, fellowshipped, and taught from God's word. Last winter, I taught at an English Village in South Korea for a couple months and this past winter, I came across the World Race and my ultimate calling in life.
The World Race is made up of people who are willing to leave the comforts of home for 11 months to jump into the vast unknown! It's already been confirmed to me in both my heart and mind in many, many ways thus far regarding my participation… BUT, I NEED YOUR HELP TO ANSWER MY CALL!!! I can't do this w/out you! EVERY little bit helps! I'm set to leave Oct. 1, 2011 and have an ultimate fundraising goal of $15,000 to cover all food, housing, and travel costs on the field as well as things like visas, vaccinations, medical insurance while abroad, and any school supplies, etc. needed while on the field. I CAN'T DO THIS W/OUT YOUR HELP! Both your prayers and financial assistance are requested for this journey. Just because you can't pick up and leave everything behind, it doesn't mean that you have to be any less involved in this ministry. Seriously. We all have different roles in the body of Christ, and prayer warriors on the behalf of my teammates and myself are very much needed and appreciated as well… in fact, moreso than you could probably ever know!
