Last summer (2011), my plans changed a great deal. The direction I thought I was going altered in a big way, and I was left wondering what God had next. As I prayed for Him to reveal to me what He wanted me to do, He led me to teach a group of middle school students at a private, special needs school. During this time I felt God calling me to something different, but it wasn’t clear just what that was. So, I continued to pray that He would reveal to me what was next, while seeking Him to use me in any way He desired between then and that reveal. Through those prayers, He led me to join the leadership team in a young adult ministry, become a youth group leader to a great group of sixth grade girls (who are now in 7th grade; why must they grow up!?), and impact my students in ways only He could have provided.
And by the end of the school year, God revealed that I was not supposed to return to the school in which I worked. Yet, there wasn’t much more after that. I still didn’t know what I was supposed to do. So, I went on interviews with high schools, dropped off countless resumes, and did a whole lot more praying. For several weeks, I wondered what would happen; wondered where exactly He was leading. The second week of July, He decided it was time to let me in on His plan. When I found out what He has in store for me over the next year and a half, I flipped out. It was something I never anticipated and soon wondered if it was me just wanting to take flight, rather than wait on Him. This was something I desired to do in middle and high school but always buried it. Was this me… or really, truly, 100% God? However, God anticipated my reaction – He’s so good at that! – and used scripture, people, and events to show me that He has indeed called me to this journey.
And what exactly is this journey? Well, I’m excited to tell you all that He has really, truly, 100% called me to missions! In January 2013 (just four short months away!), I will serve as a missionary through the organization Adventure In Missions through the The World Race program. The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different nations around the world. As of right now, the 11 nations my team (which will consist of seven or eight people from our larger ministry squad of 60-70 people) will be ministering to are Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Romania, Ukraine, South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. On the World Race, my team and I will serve in partnership with churches and ministries in the local communities of each of these eleven nations to serve in any and every way such as, to preach the Gospel, plant churches, work in orphanages, feed the poor, minister to women and children who are trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, and most importantly, share the love of Christ to many tribes and nations in response to what He has done for us.
I am so grateful for this opportunity that God has given me and have every confidence that He will provide for my needs. This will be a journey that changes me; that shows me what true dependency on God alone looks like. It is a journey I cannot do without Him and without the support that He will provide through people like you. I am asking that you go on the mission field with me by partnering prayerfully and financially with me in this ministry. In order to fulfill this call on my life and go on the World Race, I must raise $15,500, which covers all of my expenses on the field, including meals, lodging, and travel. The financial support can be given as a one-time gift or as a monthly donation, wherein you choose the amount and beginning and end dates. Below, I’ve included some information containing more details so you as a supporter can truly understand where your funds will go and decide upon the mode of giving that best suits you.
I am so excited to see how God will move in my life and the lives of others this coming year. He has already challenged and stretched me in some amazing ways since being accepted to the program just one month ago. I hope not only to be a blessing to those I serve but also to you. I would be honored to go as your representative of our great God to these eleven nations. I ask you to continue to follow me on this journey by asking me questions, following my official World Race blog (which you’re reading right here, right now) and praying. Pray for me and my team as we prepare to launch in January and for this coming new year as God challenges and leads us on this journey. I want to thank you in advance for your upmost prayers and financial support. May God bless you as your prayerfully consider partnering with me in this ministry!
