*My awesome squadmate Chelsey Owen brought this bit of lingo to my attention, and with her permission (and laughter) I write to you*
That’s some World Race lingo for you.
I think it’s something every racer understands.
Those of you contemplating the race are possibly already experiencing it. You stay up until all hours reading blogs of upcoming, current, and alumni racers. You linger on every word, commenting on those that impact you the most. You scan through every photo update, watch every second of every video post about the locations, the teams, and the ministries, and wonder more about these crazy Christ followers who are on this journey. You read the “About Me” sections and look for racers who just might be from your hometown, state, or part of the country (or just the same country for some of you). You laugh with them, cry with them, feel for them as they tell about their experiences, emotions, expectations, fears, healings, joys, etc. And in some ways, you start to love them. You’ve never even met these people, but through reading their stories, creeping on their blogs and facebook pages, and, most importantly, a shared love for Jesus and a mutual calling to this journey, you love them.
Creepin’ = Love
I know because I did it too.
I’ve been there. I was a “creeper.”
In fact, I’m still there!
With the September 2012 squads about to launch and the September 2011 squads beginning to return, I can’t get enough of what each of those lovely people has to say. And don’t even get me started on my squad, January ’13 Route 2! I’ll be honest, as soon as I applied for this squad, I creeped on their WR blogs. And as soon as I got accepted and added to our facebook group, I creeped on many of their profiles. And, of course, when I added them all two weeks ago, I creeped more thoroughly.
And you know what?!
I love these people!
There’s around 70 of us on this route, and that’s a large group of people to get to know. Almost every night on the skype or the oovoo there’s a chat session. We daily lift each other up through posts in our blogs, on our facebook group, or various other ways that God provides. We’re slowly getting to know each other as we respond to “2?Tuesday” and random get to know you posts on our squad facebook. We’re learning a little more each day or so about these people that will be our family for the next fourteen months; the people who will be our life in just four short months. And as we get to know each other better, as we chat on the skype or the oovoo or the facebook (see what I did there Ashley and Chelsey?), and as we creep on each other’s facebooks and blogs, we’ve grown to LOVE each other.
At least that’s how it is for me, and I’m almost certian that’s how they feel too.
I was a little apprehensive, a little nervous and uncertain. But as I creeped and as we’ve talked, I’ve grown to know them as much as I need to for right now; as much as God wants me to know. I’ve learned enough to know that our squad is full of amazing people. I’ve learned that God’s put us all on this specific route for a reason, and He has done such a beautiful job of putting us here. If you don’t believe me, do a bit of your own creepin’ and read their blogs! You’ll see God’s hand in every facet of their journeys to being called to the World Race. I’ve learned that a little bit of creepin’ will help to ease the apprehension and uncertainty of meeting and befriending 70 new people into utter uncontainable excitement for training camp, especially when you find one or two to bond with as you creep together.
So there you have it; a new bit of WR lingo.
Creepin’ = Love
Stay tuned for more about the road to launch! Only 6 weeks to Training Camp and an end to my creepin’ ways!
In His Grip,
Rhonda
P.S. My passport came today and my tent arrived yesterday! Things are starting to feel REAL. Thank you for your continued prayers and support (still have $3,000 to go to meet my first deadline on October 1).
