Current Location: Atlanta, GA Adventures in Missions Training Camp

Destination: Thailand (Leaving Saturday the 15th)

Training camp is going by so fast and there are a lot of changes taking place, mostly to do with team formations and development. Our coaches here in Georgia have been challenging us to apply real life to our teams and the subject I’ve been challenged to parallel is, of course, NASCAR.

Coach Gary asked me to think about NASCAR as it pertains to teams and crews and how they tend to work together. Listening to the race the other night I began to see some parallels between the World Race and NASCAR racing. As the race happened to draw on longer and longer the decisions started weighing heavily on the shoulders of the crew chiefs. Each team made a different decision about each element – the amount of gas, the number of tires, or the attention to the engine – and these choices affected their results. Each team had to trust their crew chief to make the call – whether or not the call was right or wrong. If a tire blew or their car ran out of gas because of their leader’s bad call the racing team still had to put their trust in their crew chief – and not just for that race – for next weeks race – and the next race – and the next …

It’s been difficult for me to put my trust in a team leader for the World Race – not having known each other very long – but just like NASCAR’s pit crews have to submit to their crew chiefs in order to achieve oneness I also have to give that authority to our leader in order for my team to come together as ONE.

So be praying for us as we practice living in community and striving to achieve unity among ourselves!
