2. They have no traffic rules….driving with the door open and someone hanging out the door is no big deal. There are no seatbelts so why not fit 20 people in a vehicle. Or better yet just jump in the back of a truck and hang on!!!! We have experienced this already:)
3. Lanes what lanes….2 lane road turns into 4 lanes really fast.
4. Pedestrians don`t have right of way….so when crossing the road make sure you can make it to the other side in one piece.
So basically life is really different here then back in Canada or US!!! I have seen a lot of poverty but the best part is that people are so happy no matter what. They love life and take it as it is.
The ministries we are doing is some evangelizing, preaching, working with Compassion International and teaching the children in VBS etc. also there might be some farming or construction. We are staying in a one room church sleeping on the cement floor. We have no shower just bucket baths for us and no fridge. We cook our own meals which is nice. We are learning to live the life of the Dominicans.
I have to confess it hasn`t been easy thus far. Sunday was a hard day as spiritually and emotionally I was being attacked by the enemy all day. At that point we knew where we were going for our ministries and I wasn`t fully confident in myself that I was ready for this. I felt inadequate and thought how can I reach these people. There is a lot of idolatry and human trafficking and children are often innocent in this area by the age of 8. The people may know of God but don`t know him personally. God didn`t just ease us into the mission field, we went right off the diving board….bring it on!!!
We don`t have daily access to internet as it`s a process to get it. So I will try to keep updated when I can. Please continue to pray for me and the team as we minister to these people. I am battling a bit of a cold so pray that it goes away quickly and I can continue in my ministry. Your prayers are important and appreciated.
Love you all!!!!
