Dear friends and family
Welcome to the wonderful DR!!! We are now staying in a rural little village way up in the beautiful mountains. It is called Arroyo Cano. Let me give you some interesting facts about the DR….are you ready.

1. The Dominicans live in the moment. They don`t really plan they just go with life. This is hard for me as I like to plan ahead and know everything that is happening lol.

2. They have no traffic rules….driving with the door open and someone hanging out the door is no big deal. There are no seatbelts so why not fit 20 people in a vehicle. Or better yet just jump in the back of a truck and hang on!!!! We have experienced this already:)

3. Lanes what lanes….2 lane road turns into 4 lanes really fast.

4. Pedestrians don`t have right of way….so when crossing the road make sure you can make it to the other side in one piece.

So basically life is really different here then back in Canada or US!!! I have seen a lot of poverty but the best part is that people are so happy no matter what. They love life and take it as it is.

The ministries we are doing is some evangelizing, preaching, working with Compassion International and teaching the children in VBS etc. also there might be some farming or construction. We are staying in a one room church sleeping on the cement floor. We have no shower just bucket baths for us and no fridge. We cook our own meals which is nice. We are learning to live the life of the Dominicans.

I have to confess it hasn`t been easy thus far. Sunday was a hard day as spiritually and emotionally I was being attacked by the enemy all day. At that point we knew where we were going for our ministries and I wasn`t fully confident in myself that I was ready for this. I felt inadequate and thought how can I reach these people. There is a lot of idolatry and human trafficking and children are often innocent in this area by the age of 8. The people may know of God but don`t know him personally. God didn`t just ease us into the mission field, we went right off the diving board….bring it on!!!

I have had to make some attitude adjustments thus far. I have been feeling drained emotionally and physically with all the adjustments. I often think of myself before others and that needs to leave.
I felt such joy yesterday as I was playing with the children. Just seeing the joy on their faces and the laughter is beautiful. I played catch with fruit (which softens the fruit if you ever need some help with that). Having the children run up to you and give you hugs and just want love is so amazing. My heart is overwhelmed with love and joy. Even though there is a language barrier we can communicate through our actions and our love for Christ. I even played a card game with a girl and no communication but we did it and it was fun.

We don`t have daily access to internet as it`s a process to get it. So I will try to keep updated when I can. Please continue to pray for me and the team as we minister to these people. I am battling a bit of a cold so pray that it goes away quickly and I can continue in my ministry. Your prayers are important and appreciated.

I am at $8.700 in my support. Thank you to everyone who has helped get me this far. I still need another $1,800 by the end of March to continue the race. If you feel led to support me please click on the support me tab on the left side and you can use your credit card or send in a cheque to the address provided.
PS…I have become a coffee drinker:) It`s good coffee here and my goal is to try some in every country….Tim tams here I come lol!!!!

Love you all!!!!
