I love being a girl.
We just finished putting on an information fair for the women who come into the health clinic every week. The entire week culminated on Friday afternoon when we put on a Beauty For Ashes party. It was ¡°chica chica¡± time. All of us girls got to dress up and take photos, get our nails done, make bracelets, put on makeup, dance, eat food, and listen to testimonies. The three hours we had with the girls was so precious to me. We laughed together, danced together, and shared tears together.
I want to go back to the photos though. We made cardboard signs and wrote words on them. Words like; Beautiful, Beloved, Redeemed, Valuable, I Am Loved. The girls were able to hold these declarations. Declarations that represented who God made them to be and what He thinks of them. I loved watching each girl pick and declare these truths over their own lives… even if they didn’t know that was what they were doing.
This here is Marilyn, how beautiful is she? She went into the booth a couple of times, without fail, this is the sign she would choose.
The thing most people are crying out for is to be loved. I want to make sure that the people I come in contact with know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are loved and that there is a God who loves them and that He thinks the world of them.
NOW,
I must tell you about my amazing day off. A few of us decided to go to Camp John Hay. Upon arrival we walked into a butterfly sanctuary where all my dreams came true. I took a picture with a butterfly on my face!!!!!!! It’s the little things.
Next, we stumbled upon $5 horse rides. Though, I think I rode a mule- notice his legs buckling from my weight- he still galloped like the wind.
After I thought my day couldn’t get any better we moseyed on into an area that was getting set up for a party. They graciously allowed us to take pictures in their work uniforms.
We thought, that was fun, le’s have something refreshing to drink. We walk inside the hotel and are about to order something when this nice gentleman strikes up a conversation with us and says he wants to buy us whatever we want. EXCELLENT.
His name is Raymond (with a Spanish accent). We sat with this man for close to 2 hours and found out that he A. looks like a bad guy from James Bond. B. is a millionaire C. that he was never married and has no children. We took it upon ourselves to become his four daughters for the night. We smoked cigars with him (obviously we couldn’t turn him down), and conversed with him for a while until he invited us to that party that we “accidentally” moseyed over to earlier. We accepted.
I ate the best food I have eaten in 3 months, on top of which, had strawberry flambé, for free. Thank you Raymond, thank you Jesus.
Lastly, we had Sunday off as well and meant to go to some surfing beach but our bus ride was lost in translation and we ended up on a local beach. A man offered to take us on his fishing boat to a private part of the land with a white sand beach. Well, okay.
The best week ever.
