Well this is it..my first official post on my blog!!!! Many of you are probably wondering what is The World Race? Why am I going? Where am I going? What will I be doing for 11 months and how you can support and or encourage me..WELL this is where you will get all your questions answered..
1. What is the World Race?
In short, the World Race is an eleven month Christian mission trip to eleven different countries around the world. The World Race isn’t a typical missions experience, nor is it a Christian spin off of CBS’s The Amazing Race. It’s an opportunity for young adults to let God wreck their ordinary, status-quo, affluent, comfortable lifestyle and shift their paradigms – perhaps shatter them altogether. Adventure, ministry, community and self-discovery mark the the World Race experience; these facets of the Race narrow the gaps between the head, heart, and hands and feet. The World Race is a season of awakening and activation, kick-starting Racers on a life-long adventure of extending God’s kingdom to the ends of the earth.
Why am I going?
After graduating from Elmhurst College last May and not feeling called to teach, I have been looking to God for guidance and direction. He has provided me with an amazing Nanny position where I have the opporunity to hang out with 3 beautiful girls everyday. This job will come to an end in September. Over this past year, the Lord has stretched me in so many different ways. So, you say, you still haven't answered why you are going…Well, I am going because I am called. I believe that Christ has given me a heart for the world and a heart for the Gospel. I believe that He is revealing himself in so many ways around the world, and I want to be a part of it!
Where am I going?
Starting in January 2012 I will be going to the Philippines, China, India, Nepal, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Moldova, Romania, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic!!!!!!
What will I be doing for 11 months?
Well if you just counted the countries in which I will be going, you will notice that there are 11..so 11 months gone, 11 different countries..you guessed it!-We will be in each country for one month. Each month will look completely different. Every day on the World Race will look a little different. Some days will be packed full with construction, VBS, building relationships with orphans, or praying for the sick at a hospital. Some days could be slower where we shop for groceries at the market, cook for our team, or spend time praying for the community you walk through. Every day will be focused on being a part of God's Kingdom work, in every way that could look!
How can YOU help?
First and foremost I need prayer. Please pray that God will be moving in all of the countries where I am going. Pray that He would be preparing the hearts of the people we are going to be interacting with and ultimately that the Gospel would be proclaimed and heard. I also ask that you would pray that God would be preparing me. I will be embarking on an amazing journey into so much that is unknown territory to me. Please pray that He will provide!
Secondly, I need your help financially. For this particular race, I need to raise $15,500 in support. Your reaction might be WOW..$15,500, that is A LOT OF MONEY..but this will cover all of my food, lodging, and air, land & sea travel. It also covers administrative, setup, coaching, debrief, and training costs prior to and at the start of the Race. Christ has called me to go, but He also calls people to give.
