“Reflections From Training Camp” #4:
I have had a picture in my mind since last weekend of God
running toward me with open arms. The idea comes from the story of the Prodigal Son, where at the end of the story, after the son has squandered all of the money he took from His father, the father is still waiting and looking every day for his son, and when he sees him he runs toward the son, ready to welcome him back in to his home.
This is exactly what God does with us (that’s why it’s a parable, right? because they’re stories that tell us about God…) Anyway, I’ve never really been able to put myself in this story before because I couldn’t
feel God’s love like it’s described there. But God opened my eyes to how much He loves me, and how much He desires to run toward me and welcome me and love on me. Wow!
I’ve heard this song before, and the chorus kept coming to mind as I pictured God running toward me. It’s called “When God Ran” by Phillips, Craig And Dean [here’s the chorus]:
…the only time I ever saw Him run / was when He ran to me, He took me in His arms / held my head to His chest, said “My son’s come home again.” / Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes / with forgiveness in His voice He said, / “Son do you know I still love you?” / He caught me by surprise as He brought me to my knees / When God ran – I saw Him run to me…I felt His love for me again
God
ran to me. He was watching for me, waiting for me to come back to Him, and He
ran!
