The month of Tishrei is here! Tishrei is the seventh month and the month with the fall holydays on God’s calendar.
In China we celebrated Passover – Yeshua’s sacrificial death on the cross, Unleavened Bread – our sin removed and buried with Him, and First Fruits – His resurrection as the first fruits of those who sleep.
In Swaziland we celebrated Shavuot – the gift of Holy Spirit.
In Guatemala we celebrated Yom T’ruah and observed Yom Kippur.
Each of the holydays remembers back to Israel’s history and looks forward to fulfillment in Yeshua. Yom T’ruah (Rosh Hashanah) is the Festival of Trumpets. The day we blow trumpets calling ourselves to remembrance of God and His Ways and calling Him to remembrance of us. On this day we look forward to the day He will return with a shout and the voice of the trumpets! Yom T’ruah is a time to cast our sins from us (symbolically by casting bread into water) and walk in repentance and newness. We eat apples and honey for a sweet new year. This year Yom T’ruah did not look much different than other ministry days for me. It was the day I met the knitting and crocheting ladies. I told my team about the day and it’s significance in the evening and began preparing my heart for Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is the most solemn day on God’s calendar. The only day we are commanded to fast rather than feast. It is the Day of Atonement. We who walk in Messiah observe the day with the knowledge we are forgive, covered in the blood, redeemed. We take it as a day to open ourselves to God so that He can reveal areas of our life we need to forgive and repent. Repentance always leads to greater freedom. Yom Kippur looks forward to the Great White Throne Judgement. This year I fasted from sundown to sundown and took the day off of ministry. I stayed back at the house and listened to podcasts from my church in Denver and interceded for the team.
