Hey All,
As you know this month we have been serving in China. I personally have had an incredible month. Incredibly rewarding. Incredibly challenging. Incredibly restful. Incredible team. Incredible work. One thing that made this month so good was choosing to fast the internet.
Part of that decision was made for me by the Chinese government. Here in China Facebook and Gmail are blocked. It is possible to purchase a VPN that makes it look like the computer is logging in from another country. I opted to save my money and stay offline.
Part of that decision was that I have been feedbacked by my teammates several times that I need to rest. I was raised that you can rest when your work is done plus I like to stay busy. Here on the Race part of my “work” is to blog, maintain our team’s budget, and stay connected with my amazing support team back home (you all). In Thailand (January) I determined to stay off of Facebook this year except to send private messages or upload a few photos. Unfortunately in Vietnam (March) I let Facebook have too much of my time. Going into China I knew I wanted to be more present at our work site and with my team. I discovered this month that when I gave myself permission to not blog for a month and stayed off of Facebook and email, I suddenly also had permission (and time) to read, watch movies, play games, walk home from work, and build a personal finance spreadsheet. This month I was more present and felt less pressure to be “busy.”
Part of that decision was to protect our work site and contacts. I will be posting more about this month in the next few days; however, I will not be able to post much about our work.
Now that we are back in Beijing for debrief I will be blogging again. I have a few things I want to share with you about how good the boss is.
Thank you for being patient. It’s good practice for all of us for the next two months, Swaziland and Lesotho will have very limited internet.
Love you All!
Rebecca
These stone lions and Tianamen behind them made it real. I’m really in China!
