Change of Heart…
I wanted to update you on my life after the race and the change of heart that has happened inside of me. As many of yall know, I interviewed for a position as an elementary art teacher… and I GOT THE JOB! Praise the Lord. That was a complete God thing and if you missed that story just go back and read the previous blog.
Now I considered writing sooner, but I honestly had nothing to say. I wasn’t really keen on elementary school (always thought I wanted to teach high school). It was a challenge right from the beginning. The first week I had three kids crying because they could not do the project. Paint was being spilled on the floor. Kids were playing at the sink. The classroom seemed chaotic to say the least. And I didn’t like it… Plus all the runny noses and germs… ewww.
Well God has worked in me and through me allowing my heart to be changed for elementary. After the first two weeks of struggling, I decided to spend the day observing different classroom settings. I went out to my mom’s school and was able to observe three different classrooms and teachers. And my brain started thinking… Thinking about the joy that these teachers have… The joy for art…. The joy for their students… And the joy they have with the community of teachers.
I came into my third week of teaching with a completely different attitude and joy. God has given me this opportunity. God has placed these 11 classes in my hands. God will bring me through the trails and the triumph. And I am sooo THANKFUL. I now go into the day thankful and excited. I am beginning to learn the teacher lingo: “I know you are going to make a good choice by… Thank you for making a good decision!” “I only answer boys and girls who raise their hands. Ohhh Thank You Sara for raising your hand.” “I know this class is going to have a fantastic day today!”
Enthusiasm is proving to be one of my greatest friends, along with routines/procedures put in place. I am learning and growing… And now I actually WANT to be an elementary art teacher! Thanks for all your prayers and support along the way!
