Ahhh it’s summer!  Time to relax, lay out by the pool, and do nothing.  Ha I wish, but my summer is not looking anything like that.  Nope, I have a job, taking a summer course, and getting ready for the World Race! Woo Hoo! My summer is way better than doing nothing.  I am so excited about the World Race, words cannot describe.  I have deciding that during June, July, and August I am going to do some serious fundraising for my trip, because my goal is to be fully funded by January (my launch date!) My support letter is now written… and I could send all of them out at once… But I have decided to spend 15 letters out each Monday. That way I can really prayer over the letters, and prayer individually for the family and friends receiving them.  Exciting! And also I really want to follow up and visit with my family and friends personally and tell each person more about my trip.  I am so excited to see God at work around me every day.  This journey has really begun, and I know that this is where God wants me to be.

Support Update: I currently have $698.50 in my support account! And although that may seem small, I haven’t dove into fundraising yet so that number is very exciting! (It was from the Pottery Sale I did up at school…. Where I sold all of my pottery I made this past semester in class…. I made around five hundred dollars which was very exciting!) Yes, God is good, and He is my provider.  I will give Him all the praise, honor, and glory!

Here is a copy of my support letter! (You might get one in the mail in the upcoming weeks!)

Dear Family and Friends,
Greetings! I am so excited to share with you what God has been doing in my life lately.  I am now a senior at Anderson University, majoring in Art Education, and I am going to graduate in December.  As most of you know missions is a huge part of my life from local mission projects to Honduras and Kenya. My heart’s desire is to see the world through the eyes of Christ and to share Christ’s love with others.

Starting in January 2012, I will serve as a missionary through an organization called Adventures in Mission.    I will be going on the World Race, an 11 month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries.  My team and I will serve as partners with churches and ministries in the local communities. On the trip I will serve in the Philippines, China, India, Nepal, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Moldova, Romania, Haiti, and Dominican Republic.  I would love the opportunity to meet with you and share more about my trip.

One of God’s many names is Jehovah-jireh, the LORD will provide.  The cost of my trip, which covers all of my expenses in the field, is $15,500.  This is a massive amount, but I am trusting God to be my provider.  I invite you to be on my prayer team and to support me financially as God leads you.  You can give a onetime donation or support me on a monthly basis while I am on the World Race.  I have enclosed a response card and pre-addressed envelope, inviting you to share in this ministry.  Please make checks payable to Adventures in Missions, with my name (Rebecca Spires) on the memo line.  If you would prefer to make your donation online, you may do so by visiting my blog site at: http://rebeccaspires.theworldrace.org/.  Just click the “Support Me” link in the left side of the page and complete your donation as instructed.

I am so excited to see how God will move in my life and in the lives of others in the coming year.  I hope not only to be a blessing to those I serve.  I want to thank you in advance for your prayers and financial support.  May God bless you as you prayerfully consider partnering with me in this ministry.

Blessings,
Rebecca Spires
