BIENVENIDOS!! WELCOME!! Welcomed I have been here in Honduras. We have all been welcomed by an amazing ministry with so much vision and hope for the future of both men and women in this beautiful country. We have also been welcomed to a new way of living. We take cold-water showers here. Our bathrooms are community, and by community I mean both boys and girls use one restroom. This has been the topic of many great conversations so far. My team has chosen to live in tents all month instead of tenting up inside of the common building. We wash our cloths in buckets by hand and dry them on lines. All in all these things have become the normal way of living for us. If you don’t already know my whole squad is together this month. While it is a huge blessing to have all 53 of us in the same area it has been challenging at times too.
This month we are working closely with a ministry called Zion’s Gate. Basically what they do here is seek out street kids who have struggled with addiction of some sort and rehabilitate them, but more importantly show them the love of Christ. The children come here by choose, and are never forced to change. One of my favorite things about Zion’s Gate is that they pursue children that most people believe to be too far-gone. I am beyond happy that the children here are being pursued instead of begging for money to purchase their next high. I can’t imagine these 12 to 19 year olds ever being dependent on something so toxic. They are so precious and to me they are the boys that play with toy cars, swing on ropes from trees, build tree houses, and play soccer in the yard. I am glad that they were giving a chance to live.
You might all be wondering what exactly we are doing here so I will inform you. Right now my team is working hard on a flower garden here on the property. The soil in Honduras has never really been cultivated and is made primarily of rocks. This has been the most challenging thing for us ladies. We have dug up some massive rocks. When I say rocks I mean boulders. I loved my team so much before embarking on this journey, but seriously my love for them can’t be described. They are my family here. They work so hard and never complain, unless patience is needed.
We have been doing a few other things here in Honduras, but I have been unable to finish this blog on all the details. The only time I have internet as of right now is on Fridays between 4-6 central time. Hoping to post another blog soon on all that we are doing. For now you guys can check out my team mates blogs as they might have more information.
