Hi! My name is Rebecca Keys. I have lived in the Grand Rapids, MI area for a majority of my life, but my roots lead me back to Erie, PA. I graduated from Grace College in May of 2012 with a Criminal Justice and Psychology double major. I loved college, but not enough to pursue a Master’s degree.
Since graduating, I have worked for a non-profit organization, based in Grand Rapids, called Hope Network. I work in an adult foster care 24/7 behavioral home. What this means is most of the adults I work with are learning to cope with a psychological disorder (i.e. bipolar or schizoaffective) or an addiction. The home I work in houses 6 woman, who range in the ages of 18 to 50’s or 60’s. When I go into work my day can range from doctor’s appointments to cooking meals to attending classes. No day is the same and the job definitely keeps me on my toes. Though enough about the day job, if you would like to know more, shoot me a note and I would be glad to talk with you more about what I do.
While I mostly enjoy what I do and the people I work with over the past year I have felt like my life has been in a rut. I started looking for a new job, but the thought of spending endless hours on applying for jobs just did not appeal to me. One Sunday as I was reading through the newspaper I ran across an article discussing the World Race. After reading the article, I had this feeling and sense of adventure. I spent the next few weeks looking at the World Race site, reading different posts and talking it over with my parents. Then one night I stumbled across the “Think you have what it takes to go?” quiz. I took it and thus began my contact with World Race.
I am SO EXCITED for this opportunity to go serve, love on and experience 11 different cultures. I know this trip will not be possible except with tons of prayer and generous donations. Please pray for my team as we go and for God’s endless Grace as we serve across the world.
Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions! I would love to talk more about this amazing experience God is sending me on!
