One of my favorite activities is walking to the town of Isibania. First of all, I feel like an actress where ever I go. Why you ask…cause every few minutes children yell “Mzungu, How are you?” LOL!!!! It just makes me smile. Second, there are seven of us in my group and we always have at least one local person with us. The first day we went to town we had three locals with us and I laugh because it truly feels like they are our bodyguards. There is one guy who pretty much spends 24/7 with us and his name is Michael. Now Michael is an interesting fellow to say the least. I have been scolded by him twice for the silliest things. The first time was when I was sitting on the porch reading a book. Usually there are plastic chairs on the porch but they had been borrowed from the church and were needed for the service earlier that day. So anyways, He came over to me and said “Do we not have chairs to sit in?” Now, I'm just dumbfounded and kinda stare blankly….its not that big of a deal to sit on the floor or at least that’s what I thought…but he went onto say, “I will bring one for you when I came back. Do not sit on the ground.” So yup I got in trouble for sitting on the floor. 🙂 I think that takes talent but guess what? That's not the end to my trouble-making ways. Just last night I was walking around barefoot in the house. Michael called me over to where he was sitting and asked where my shoes were. My response “Uhhhhhhhh….not on my feet???” I was very puzzled. Its kind of a random question. Michael pointed to the floor and said that when it is dark outside the floor is too cold and that I must wear socks or shoes on my feet. I was like that’s weird but ok. Now granted the floor is cement but the weather is more like spring here and its not that chilly. However, it is Winter for Kenya so just imagine little black children bundled up in snowsuits and heavy winter coats while I am walking around in shorts and a t-shirt. But whatever…I am just trying my best not to offend anyone 🙂
