“Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” Psalm 37:24
I’ve been in Nepal for a week now, its completely different from anywhere I have been before. They are still recovering/rebuilding from the earthquakes.
India’s border closed because there were too many Nepalese trying to cross over. They are very limited on their resources such as gas, water, electricity and gasoline. Because the lack of gas the locals have been cooking with fire wood.
There is no heat and no hot water. Water is also scarce, we have to be very aware of how much we use. Electricity is regulated by the government and is shut off three times a day with no knowing of when it will be turned on, it’s a guessing game.
Because gasoline is so limited, so are the seats on the bus. Most people end up having to ride on top of the bus but we make it fun! Even with the lack of resources this month, I’m so excited to be here!
As I was talking to one of the mothers that helps with the local ministries, I asked her what it was like for her during the earthquakes. She replied, “I was at home when the first one happened. I had one of my boys by my side (3 year old) and my other boy (5 year old) was upstairs asleep. I yelled out to my husband to grab my boy that was sleeping and we ran out of the house as fast as we could.” For the next two months they slept in a field near by because they were scared that their house would collapse on them.
I couldn’t imagine what it was like for her and her family to tent outside their home wondering when it would be ok for them to return inside.
Part of our ministry this month is reaching out to employees that work at cabin restaurants; now this might sound innocent but it’s a restaurant where you are served by women and depending on how expensive your order is will determine how much you will be serviced. As I walked into the ‘restaurant’ there was a long hallway with a kitchen to my right, I walked a bit more and there to the right was the cashier. At the end of the hallway was a room that had three cabins on the right and three on the left. The ‘cabins’ are 4×5 ft long cubicles with condoms hanging over the sides of them. As I’m sitting there with five other girls on my squad I felt such a dark heaviness.

We brought the women presents that included a nice scarf and the book of John. We had the chance to speak with two of the women. One said the reason why she is doing this is because after the earthquakes there was no other way to support herself. Another woman said that she married young, had a baby and shortly after her husband left her.
When we asked these women what their dreams are they replied that they didn’t have any because they are uneducated so there is no use in dreaming. It broke my heart to hear that, as she sat there in front of me, such a beautiful woman that felt so hopeless.
They asked us why we came to visit them with gifts. We replied that we are here to spread Gods love. She then replied, I believe that God kept me near to receive His love. Amen! These people here are broken but I believe they see God’s light.
I just wanted to take the time to say thank you, I really appreciate all of you that have subscribed to my blog and that have supported me. This trip means a lot to me and I couldn’t have done it with out your support, thank you!
Since we are in the season of giving, I have decided to give everyone who donates to me this month a gift from Nepal. Any amount that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated and is tax deductible. Again thank you for all your love, support and prayers! #RayofLightinNepal
