Meet Team RedeemIng D.U.S.T!!!!!!!!!
These are the people I will live with and work with for at least the first few months of my race! They are my new family, and I already love them so much! Each one of them is seriously amazing.

As you can probably tell, our team name is loaded. We pretty much crammed as much meaning as we possibly could into two words. But those capital letters and periods are not in vain! Let me explain.

Let’s start with dust. After all, that’s where we all started. (Hah, get it? Creation joke. Sorry.)

But actually, our reasoning for choosing to use dust isn’t because of creation.

Dust is significant for two main reasons:

1. Our team leader, Kristi, told us about how she once heard that in Biblical times, you could tell someone had been close to the rabbi because he or she would have dust from the rabbi’s sandals on his or her face. In those days, the priests or rabbis were the ones who were in closest communion with God. Having dust on your face was a sign that you had been in the presence of the holy. Our desire as a team and as individuals is to live in that same proximity to our holy God. We want to constantly be in the presence of the Lord. We want to be the dust – a sign of God’s presence to the world!

2.This verse:

The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of His people. He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 113:4-9

As we began to explore the word “dust,” I was reminded of this verse, which is such an incredible reminder about our God’s character. We were made as dust, but God has taken us and raised us up and given us the fullness of His riches and glory because of Jesus! I love this verse because this is exactly what I pray God uses us to do – that He will use us as His hands and feet in the nations to lift up the poor, bless them, meet their needs, and restore their worth!

Which leads into the “redeeming” part of our name.

We wanted to use this action verb to show that God still in the business of redeeming his people from the dust to raise us up and sit with princes! This something that He is still doing, and He is allowing us to be part of it!

So now we’re at – redeeming dust.

But we couldn’t stop there! We turned dust into an acronym that contains an almost mission statement for our team.

Desiring
Unity – We want true unity among our team!
Service – We want to truly love and serve all of the people we meet!
Transformation – We want both our lives and the lives of others changed because of Jesus, and we want to be transformed as we follow Him!

So we’re at – redeeming D.U.S.T. now.

But lastly, we capitalized the “I” in redeemIng to represent for our squad – I SQUAD!

Which finally leaves us with...

Team RedeemIng D.U.S.T!
