We arrive in Quezon City early on Wednesday morning. After grabbing a quick breakfast at the local McDonald’s (I know, I know, who am I and why am I eating at McDonald’s?!) we are picked up by a joyful filipino lady who drives us to her ministry site.
As we carefully cross the gate –which proves to be a challenge for average-height Americans– we are greeted by a great amount of children and their parents, waiting in line for a doctor’s visit.
The house where Christian Light Foundation Philippines is located is one of the coziest and most welcoming places I have stepped foot into on the World Race. There are bookshelves on every wall filled to the rim. Around a corner there is a living room with rustic but comfortable couches where we take a seat, and I notice the beautiful upright piano that makes the room feel even more homey. There are parts of the interior that feel like a cabin in the woods, and other parts that feel like a ranch in the countryside. Above all though, I know God is here.
This organization is doing amazing things for the people they serve in the Philippines. Their programs include a sponsorship program to help children receive education, a hot meal feeding for children, a milk and vitamins program to supplement nutritional needs of malnourished children, health classes to teach mothers how to best care for their families, a TB medicine program to help children who have contracted tuberculosis, and Bible Studies to help spread the gospel to the poor. They are being, as their name says, a Christian Light in the middle of the darkness of poverty and malnourishment.
After a few hours of ministry and conversations with the people at Christian Light Foundation, it is time to say goodbye. We leave filled up with joy, and excited at the prospect of future World Racers walking into this place and serving alongside the wonderful Spirit-led people we have met.
