We were asked to write
a blog about how we were called to this mission trip.

Here is my story…

The story begins in 2004
when Jesus became more real in my life than ever before. At this time I had
just gone through a life changing experience, and I have wanted nothing but to
continue to draw closer to God since. I wanted to be in church or doing
something for the church all of the time. I felt at home at the church,
whatever church I was at. Anytime there was something going on at the church
and I was not there I felt like I was not doing what I was supposed to be
doing. This gave me the feeling that deep inside I was supposed to be doing
some kind of ministry, either in the church outside of it.

Near the beginning of 2008, I began going to a
church that had a very large college program. The church that I had recently attended
was a very great church, but it was a small country church where there were
only about three or four other people my age that came on a regular basis. I cannot
remember the exact date, but sometime during this past summer the college group
was going on its annual retreat. Usually on this retreat the focus was on our
own relationship with Jesus Christ, but this time we decided to call it an
advance and put the focus on giving things to others. On the Saturday of the
advance, about half of the college group went into the neighborhood went into
the local community and groceries to several families in need. I chose to stay
with the other half of my group at the retreat center. The retreat center was a
large home on many acres and was managed by an elderly couple. There were
several things around the center that the couple was not able to do. Those of
us who stayed did these things which needed to be done. Some of the things we
did were hedge trimming, moving furniture, and cleaning the house. All of these
things were so simple for a bunch of college students and they did not take us
very long, but when we were finished the happiness and gratefulness of that
couple was better than anything I could have received. All I could think about
in the weeks following this was how great it was to see the happiness of
someone by just doing a little thing. I began searching for mission trips and I
came across the AIM website. I spent hours looking over all of the different
trips and I could never find one that felt right to me. A few days later, after
much prayer asking God to show me what I needed to do, I went to the AIM
website and saw the World Race. I don’t know how I didn’t see it before, but
after I looked over the information on it and prayed about it I knew that this
was the one that God was calling me to. So here I am now, writing about how I was
called to mission trip.
