A few days ago I was spending time with the Lord for the first time in over a week. I was telling Him how tired and burnt out I felt. I told Him that He felt so far away. It seemed like we had been standing on a mountain top together for so long, but now I felt alone in the valley.
This past summer, the Lord lead me to read the Bible in 40 days. Through those 40 days, He instilled in me a daily rhythm of spending time with Him and really listening to what He’s saying and what He has for me. Honestly, it’s through that time with Him that I was drawn back to the World Race after not being accepted earlier in the year.
But it seems like since I was accepted to the World Race, there has been distance between us again. I’d found myself standing in the valley, far away from God. As I was talking through this with Him, He helped me realize something. There is beauty in the mountains no matter where you’re standing.

I want to share a passage from my journal that day:
“Beauty is found while standing at the top looking out at the vast landscape below. And beauty is found in the lush green fields of the valley. But the valley is where things are put into perspective. The reality of just how small you are becomes abundantly clear when the mountains are towering over you. Being in the valley makes me realize how much I need You. You made the mountains and the valleys, and You knew exactly when I would be making my way through them. You walk with me through the mountain tops and the valleys, because You promised to never leave me or forsake me. Nothing can separate me from Your love that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Even if it seems like the Lord is far, He’s not. He promises over and over again to never leave us alone. He’s always going to be right by our side. And thought sometimes it’s a struggle, I have to choose to believe that God will do what He says He’ll do.
If you find yourself in a valley right now, don’t let go of God’s promises. It is in those promises that beauty is found.
