Last week I sat down to rest with the Lord. I was looking through my journal entries from months ago. I stumbled upon a quote that helped me during my decision process for the WR:
“I don’t know where I’m going, but I know who I’m following.”
And this still holds true. I am about to face a lot of unknowns: the countries, the people, the tasks. So in that moment I realized my purpose for this summer. I want to use my time to really get to know who I’m following…like really know who I’m following. A verse came to mind, and I decided it will be my summer anthem:
“Show me your ways O Lord, Teach me your paths; Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God, My Savior, and my Hope is in you all day long.”
>> Show. Teach. Guide.<<
Later that night my mom gave me package from my sweet sweet relatives (I love you Younkers). It was a graduation gift. I opened it up and there was a book titled “The God You Can Know” by Dan DeHaan. The first chapter reads “God: I Want to Know You!” WHAAA! like WHAAAA! How cool is God! But wait it gets better…..
Every year my youth group goes to a camp called bigstuf. It is on the beach and is filled with worship and powerful sermons and simply amazing joyful moments. Our group was leaving this past Monday and this year would have been the first year I would not have gone. Last minute a spot opened up for me to go.(by last minute i mean at 12:30 the night before they left…so literally the last minute) The theme for the week was “My story for His Story”. The Lord wrecked me yet again!!
Through this past week at camp I had the opportunity marvel in God’s goodness, and he surely revealed His perfect character. I learned about The Great I.AM. and about HIS STORY. His oh so beautiful and perfect and BIG story. Our God is big, our God is mighty. Our God loves humanity so much I cannot even fathom it. My mission is to know.my.father. I find out who I am through knowing who He is.
I want to know my God who calls himself the I AM. I want to know my God because this is what I was created for.
So this summer (and all my life) that is my mission. That is my desire. That is my purpose.
Before I go out and serve God for nine months, I want to REALLY know the God I’m serving.
Won’t you join me?
“Scripture emphasizes the idea that we must find our security in God
before we seek it in an activity for God.”-Dan DeHaan
