I am about to embark on a journey. One in which I feel utterly and completely unprepared. I mean, how can I possibly carry everything that will need on my back for 11 months. I’m not talking about my personal needs (clothes, tent, coffee!)…. I’m about to go into 11 different countries and encounter pain and hurt and need on levels I have never seen before. Even if it were possible, there is no way that I could carry enough food or clean water to the people that I am going to meet. There’s no way that I can take in every orphan I will meet or rescue every girl I see out of human trafficking.

So where does this leave me? If I look at every seemingly overwhelming circumstance I am going to encounter, I am left feeling totally helpless! That is, until I remember the instructions Jesus gave His disciples in Matthew 10.

And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.’ (Matthew 10:7-10)

Jesus sent out His disciples to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons. He instructed them to freely give with nothing tangible in their hands!

And so, just as they went, I go!!

I go carrying the Spirit of the Living God inside of me! I go carrying the fire of God! I go carrying Life! My pack may be light, but I carry something of greater worth than anything I could ever put in a bag. I carry the Kingdom of Heaven!
