“Pull the stick out!! Pull the stick out!!” Peter shouts, running while limping over to me.

“What?” I ask, startled.

“There’s a stick in my foot. It hurts so bad!! Get it out, please!!”

Seated, I lift his foot and look at the bottom of it. I saw nothing there. It looked completely normal.

“I don’t see anything Peter. Where exactly does it hurt?”

He points to the spot. I put my fingers on the spot and he squeals in pain.

So weird, I think to myself.

“Can I pray for your foot?” I ask.

“Yes,” he responds. I place my hand on the bottom of his foot and pray for the pain to go away in Jesus’ name.

When I finished praying, I asked how it felt.

“Good, really good,” he said.

“Walk around to be sure,” I said.

“It feels great now, I’m sure!!” he exclaims as he starts to walk and skip around the porch.

He hugged me and thanked me, and I thanked Jesus again for making Peter’s foot feel better.

My God is the One who heals the blind. He heals the crippled. He heals the diseased. He heals the deaf. He casts out demons. He brings the dead back to life. He does BIG miracles.

But my God also does the small miracles, like healing the pain in a little orphan’s foot in Africa. And healing my sore throat in Costa Rica. And healing my teammate Mason’s hip dysplasia in Zimbabwe. And healing a little girl named Tink-Tink in Malaysia of a cold. And freeing a teammate of depression and replacing it with extreme joy. And healing an orphan named Joseph of a fever in Zambia.

These aren’t coincidences. These are REAL miracles performed by a REAL God who wants to show us REAL love.

And you know something? These might be “small” miracles in our eyes, but they’re actually the big ones. If we can’t trust God with the small things, how can we trust Him with the big things? It’s the little miracles that grow our trust and faith in Jesus.

If you’ve prayed for a miracle of healing and haven’t seen results, it’s not that God hasn’t heard your prayers. He wants to heal and restore and deliver us. But His ways aren’t our ways, and He sees the bigger picture. His timing is perfect, and He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). Cling tightly to the promise in Romans 8:28 when you feel discouraged or hopeless while waiting for a big miracle.

Don’t forget that each beautiful sunset is a miracle. Don’t blink, or you’ll miss the everyday miracles God does to show us He loves us. It’s been an honor to see God’s hand at work all around the globe this year. I’m humbled by his extreme love and faithfulness for His children.
