For the month of August I spent my time working at Mission of Hope Haiti with my entire squad. I had the opportunity to get to know my squadmates on a deeper level, which I loved having that time with them. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t hard leaving and all going our separate ways. I am part of the PPC (party planning committee) for the squad and since it was all squad month we decided we needed to plan something epic! So, what did we plan? The Haitian Prom! We had decorated the rooftop, made a photo booth, and prepared some snacks
On our squad we have more girls then guys so in order for everyone to have a date each of the guys had three dates. They all had to ask their dates in a “prom” way. All us girls were really impressed by their creativity and how into the asking they got. Tim asked me by using 11 orphans that lived on the compound and flowers. They walked out of the toy shed one at a time while “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars played in the background and handed me flowers. Tim was the last one out of the shed with another bundle of flowers. I was pretty impressed. My other dates were Ashley L. and Kelly.
When it got to the night of prom all the girls got ready together in the hallway and waited for the guys to pick us up. We got to eat dinner with our dates and take prom pictures just like a traditional prom. We all danced the night away on the rooftop of our dorms.
When we mentioned the prom to the guys they had asked us if they could be in charge of the Prom royalty. Knowing that we had a lot to prepare for the Prom we were grateful that they were willing to help. Little did we know they had a little surprise up their sleeves? They announced that we were going to do the royalty on another night. We had all squad worship night were the guys ran the whole thing. They lead worship and shared parts of their hearts with the squad. Then they proceeded to have us get back with our dates as they came over with basins of water and a towel. Instead of having one queen and one king, they made us all feel like queens. They washed our feet as they spoke words of encouragement over us from the Lord.
I feel as though all the Prom events made our squad feel more united. We are so blessed to have the Men of God that we do one our squad. They are all true examples of what it is like to live like Christ. It was definitely my favorite Prom I have been to!
