I have a bittersweet relationship with automatic doors.

Reasons I am not fond of them:

  • They never quite open fast enough.
  • Sometimes they think I am exiting when I am not.

Reasons I love them:

  • I am that person who pushes when the door says pull.
  • They make me feel like a ninja.

The door has no other purpose than to open when I get near. That is a heady experience. The differing air pressures give the wind-through-the-hair effect. Add a bass-bumping anthem, some slow-motion cameras…well, stage set.

If only we could have theme songs play wherever we go. Movies are onto something, there. If that were the case, here are some songs that might have played throughout my twenty-two years:

1989—My mom gave birth to me.

*cue obvious theme song*

Heaven is the face of a little girl—
Stephen Curtis Chapman

ʉ۬

Heaven is the sound of her breathing deep,

lying on my chest, falling fast asleep while I sing.

And Heaven is the weight of her in my arms,

being there to keep her safe from harm while she dreams.

That was me, my parents’ little angel. (This is probably the part where they will proceed to tell me once again how much of a nightmare I was as a baby. Never going to live that one down).

5th grade—Beginning of my relationship with Jesus

Thank You for Being A Friend—Andrew Gold

ʉ۬

Thank you for being a friend

Traveled down the road and back again

Your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant

I’m not ashamed to say

I hope it always stays this way

There was no magic prayer or specific day this decision happened. It was just a little girl realizing that God did not have to be some cosmic concept, but a real friend.

If Jesus was a girl in my class, I would have invited him to swing next to me at recess. Definition of best friends right there.

2004–High school!

Running on Sunshine–Jesus Jackson

You got me running on sunshine

Ain't no clouds getting in my way

I must be running on sunshine

Ain't no rain getting in my way

I had a great time in high school. Not that I would go back. But
no regrets. Also I ran a lot.

2008—College.

Independent—Webbie

I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T.

Do you know what that means?

She got her own house.
She got her own car.

Two jobs. Work hardɉ۬

Catchy little tune. Growing up, I was not in a hurry to get out of the house–I really like my family. However, I love love love being on my own. It is so rewarding to be self-sufficient. (Then God did this thing like call me to raise $15,500 so I could go on the World Race, and my independence went out the window. But that is for further down the page).

I didn’t go all crazy college partier because my parents were awesome at staying in my head even three hours away. However, college brought me out of my sheltered world and showed me a world of grey where I once thought there was black and white. I had a lot of growing up to do.

2012—The present.

Live Like That—Sidewalk Prophets

I want to live like that

And give it all I have

So that everything I say and do

Points to You â€¨â€¨

If love is who I am

Then this is where I'll stand

Recklessly abandoned

Never holding back

I want to live like that

I want to live like that

Every day has a purpose. I am living to give glory to Jesus.

He’s been the best swingset partner by far.

So when you get the chance

Are you gonna take it?

There’s a really big world at your fingertips

And you know you have the chance to change it

–Britt Nicole, "Lost Get Found"
