Let go and let God
“As children bring their broken toys,
With tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God,
Because he is my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
In peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help,
In ways that were my own.
At last, I snatched them back again
And cried, ‘How can you be so slow?’
‘My child’, He said, ‘What could I do? You never did let go.'”
So many of us try to have control over everything in our lives. We are scared of the unknown, the future that we cannot control, but that’s what faith is all about. You will never live a fulfilled life until you give God everything in your life. I recently read The Shack, and it changed my entire perspective of Christianity. God wants us to choose Him. He doesn’t force it upon us because He wants to be wanted, just like we do. Before coming on the Race, I felt that being a Christian was just something I had to do. It was something I had done my whole life, it didn’t feel like a choice. Realizing that fully trusting in God is not only a choice but usually a daily one opened my eyes. He is there for us whether we choose Him or not. The best things come to those who choose God, because you can only live a fulfilled life through Him.
Letting Go and Letting God be present in every part of my life is one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I’ve had to make the decision to let go the most on the Race, with friendships, relationships, and family situations back home. I wake up and have the choice in front of me everyday to either let God handle it or try to control my own life. I don’t know about you but with my history, controlling my own life hasn’t really gone well. It took being separated from my comforts, everyday life, and loved ones for me to finally start choosing God, even with the little things. He will reward those who choose Him because he wants to be wanted, that’s what we were created for. So be bold, make that choice. Start with the small things like spending an extra 5 minutes a day with Him and watch how He works in your life. It’s truly incredible. Thanks for following my journey! I’ll update soon with a look at what ministry and adventure days have looked like in Thailand!
