Hi! My name is Rachel Slama and I want to help people. For however cliche and naive that is, it's been my career goal for quite some time now (alongside Christian rock star from ages 8 to about 6 months ago….#rockon). I've always longed to use this one life that I have been given to make others' one life better. And the Lord has blessed me with countless opportunities to do this. From summer mission trips to soup kitchen visits to my internships with Street's Hope and Invisible Children, the Lord has solidified in me this ambiguous goal of "helping people".
This dream of mine started in Denver, CO, and was nurtured in a loving family and a wonderful church home in Lakewood United Methodist Church. It then became more tangible and real as I went on to get my Bachelor's of Science in Business Management from the University of Wyoming. Now, I can joyfully proclaim that I work in the field of helping people as an Engagement Intern for Invisible children.
While this yearning can be, and is being, fulfilled here in the States, I feel the Lord calling me to pursue it in a new way, in a new place. He has lead me to tangibly be His hands and feet, right in the midst of His children's lives.
So, while this is definitely an unexpected twist in my story, it fits. Because God made me to help people, and that's what the Race is about.
