Story. Everyone has one.
Donald Miller shares that story is a character that wants something and overcomes conflict to get it in his book, A Million Miles and a Thousand Years. He challenges the readers that when you meet someone new to delve into their story. Seek out their heart. Puruse them. Find out what they want or have wanted, what are their dreams, hopes, and desires. What conflict have they endured along the way and what great moments of celebration have they have experienced.
This week, I met two great stories.
Cosmin. A 24 year old who was rescued by a family here in the Caminuel Felix village. When he was five his gypsy mother left him abandonded at a childrens pyschiatric hospital. He was unable to walk, talk, eat or use the restroom on his own. It was said that he was a hopeless case. He endured so much trauma that when they tried to take care of his needs he would push them away and yell "NO!" He had never used a toilet so when they were potty training he thought they were going to hurt him. The hospital said he would be handicapped and live in a wheel chair his whole life. Slowly, through the love of this family Cosmin was completly restored. He began walking, eating and forming words. He even went to school and now has a passion for cooking and the elderly. Everyday he prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner and visits the elderly on a regular basis. With a smile his father said Cosmin is the greatest miracle he's ever witnessed.
Maria. A precious baby girl who the moment I saw her, my heart melted. I was reading the pages of her story just by being around her. Her eyes communicated the things she holds dear. She loves the wind. She loves to run. She loves to swing. She loves laughing. She loves being free. She loves being held. She loves to be loved. She loves being dependent. She knows she is special and valuable.
