Once upon a time I lived in a little house on a hill in the little town of Bethany, Oklahoma on 27th street. I spent most of my childhood there so it has many memories. Although, the most memorable ones were spent in the backyard playing on my fort, my daddy built for me. I would climb to the top of that fort and daydream for hours, my heart content. I can remember pretending I was a princess at the top of a castle waiting for her prince to come rescue her. My imagination ran wild. My dreams would come alive. It was there where I learned about the secret place. I felt it was where I belonged. I was safe. Every day there was a new adventure and opportunity to dream. Anything was possible there.
One day I forgot about the fort. I grew up, life happened and the adventure and dreams faded away. I would wonder if the secret place was even real? As I pondered these hard questions my heart began to soften and He opened me up to the possibility of believing again.
King David talks about the secret place in the book of Psalms. In psalm 91 he says “whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
God wants to be our secret place. He desires for us to make our home in Him where there is security. Where our dreams and adventures come alive. Where we can hope. Where we can trust. Where no matter what's going on, we're safe in His arms. Where we are welcomed as sons and daughters, apart of the family.
Hiding in the secret place is really about experiencing the presence of the Lord and coming into the realization of abiding in HIM, the Person, becoming conscious and developing an awareness of His presence. I challenge you to open yourself up to believing in the secret place again because He's there, waiting….for you.
