Tanzanian Update
Hello from Tanzania!! Just wanted to give a
quick update on what I am up to this month. My team is working with a church in
Mbeya called Tanzania Assemblies of God. It is hard to describe, but compared
to the heaviness and darkness we experienced in Uganda, this place is a much
lighter, much more uplifting environment. We love spending time with the
pastor, his wife, his 6 daughters, and several grandchildren.
never knew I loved teaching so much. Although breaking down the English
language to people who don’t know a lick of it is not as easy as one might
suppose. They really are coming along quite well.
on the church porch all day long! So cute. So far the biggest hits are duck
duck goose and rag-ball soccer. We have
also been doing the occasional house visits, but the highlight of my month so
far has been going to the hospital here to pray for people. It’s always
shocking to me how honored people feel to have a Mzungu come and talk to them,
but they are. So we go. We comfort. We pray for God to do His thing. Its heart wrenching to see sometimes, but I
am beginning to see that God is so much more involved in this suffering than I
could have ever imagined. He is good and not absent in such places.
Tomorrow we will head with the church we are
working with, along with a 20 person choir, are going to a hut village in the
middle of nowhere. We will be out there for 5 days, doing house visits and
revival services. This will be my first experience living in the real Africa bush (like huts and wells and sleeping in
hammocks) and I can’t wait! Although, 5 days will probably be plenty.
After that, next week we will be heading to Zanzibar for some Thanksgiving beach time, and then onto Nairobi for debrief with
our squad. We fly out of Africa on December 3rd!
Thailand
here we come.
So this is it. The half way mark! The world race
is all down hill from here!
