Rackoko, Uganda.
X-squad had the opportunity to have a time of rest in Jinja, Uganda before starting ministry for the month. We went camping on the Nile River which was beautiful and also went rafting. I have never been before….. so whats better than starting on the class 5 rapids that take u into a whirlwind of seeing stars and gasping for breath when u flip over. It was pretty insane.

Decided to jump off the Nile High bungee too…

We also had a switch of teams. My new team leader is Carly Sue Brown. Teammates are Katie Way, Cody O'Donnell, and Frank Sawatsky. These last few months should be a blast. Team Name is THROVE. Overflow and thrive are our words for the team, so we just pretty much made up this name by putting the the words together. "May the God of HOPE fill you with all the joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may OVERFLOW with the HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Currently we have been at our new ministry site for one week. This is the simple life. No running water. Very scattered electricity. HOTTEST country yet. We are sleeping in our tents! Sometimes I feel like jumping into a snow bank. Most of the local people live in huts<3. There are farm animals roaming all over the place. At night they get really loud and do strange things in our front yard. Our diet mainly consists of beans and rice. Having instant coffee in the morning that we got from the city makes me way too happy.

Kindgom Pearl ministries is focused on young men and it incorporates sports like soccer and volleyball. It also helps with getting the boys into school.
So far we have been listening to people that just need to talk and hanging around the town. The war here ended less than 6 years ago and has been very hard on the Ancholi people. Many children were taken from their families and made to be soldiers on the rebels side. Some of the stories I have heard are unbelievable. Their testimonies of the Lords mercy are touching. I'll try and share some of them with you.

A few more weeks in Africa and then onto the homestretch months in SE Asia. I have been thinking about home a lot lately and am struggling some with staying motivated these past few days….I also seem to be getting distracted more than usual here so please keep me in your prayers.
We just found out we will be going to Malaysia instead of Vietnam…!
lots of LOVE
Rachel
