I remember reading blogs before I came on the race about people rescuing street kids. ..how they would just know which one to take off the street. I never understood until I met David (16).
Whenever we pull up to the local grocery store its always sure you are going to be met by a group of street boys. They beg and follow you all the way up to the windows and don't stop until you leave. Its hard not to give to everyone but you just can't and it can get dangerous since most of them are high on glue. Well the first week we were in Kitale I was sitting in the van outside the grocery and started a conversation with a boy who had the worst looking "shoes" I have ever seen. He was very sweet and wasn't pushy or invading. A few days later in the van again I hear "Rachel, Rachel!" It was David at the window! I got really excited to see him. I began asking him more of his story and and soon my heart began to break for this boy. He put his head in the window and I began praying for him. Soon we were both crying. Now many street kids make up stories but something was different with him. The Lord began speaking to my heart about him. He needed to get off the street.

David
One night my teammate Staci started telling us about a boy she met on the street and how he was different and how she wished she could get him into a school. His name was Megan (17). She began to talk to him quite a bit and soon went to his house with a pastor and another male to make sure the story was straight. When she got there one of the boys asked where I was…it was David, and Megan was his brother! He showed Staci the new flip flops I had got for him and was so excited about them. They lived in a one room mud shack and had one more brother Jeremiah (15) and a friend who also stayed there. They all slept on one mattress on the floor. They had no parents.
For the past month we have gotten to know them better and have prayed alot into their situation and what we can do. They want to get off the street. They want to go to school. They want a family. We are sending them to a Christian boarding school and a pastor we have been working with is going to take them in on holidays and be their guardian at the school. They will be taught the Bible and be educated. The Lord has opened doors and now we just need the funds to make it all happen. School starts in a few weeks and if you would like to be apart of sending them let me know. Please join me in prayer for these boys, I love them and I know the Lord is going to use them in a mighty way!
