I’m not going to lie; month 10 was a hard month for a multitude of reasons. One of the biggest reasons was just trying to keep my mind from wandering. I’m now in month 11, which means I am so close to going home (23 days until I’m on American soil) and it’s been hard not to think about home and what I will do after the race and what it will look like to try to adjust back into American culture, and a million other things. All these things are just constantly running through my head distracting me from being fully here. One morning during my quiet time I heard God whisper- “Just rest with me. What have you learned about me this year?” So, I just started writing and ironically enough I came up with 11 things I have learned about God. 11 things I want to always KNOW about God. 11 things I want YOU to know about God. 11 things that have changed my life and my relationship with God.

 

  1. Life with God is wild and dangerous but at the same time completely safe. It’s bungee jumping off a bridge over Victoria Falls dangerous and snuggling up with your favorite person on a comfy couch safe.
  2. When you let go and let God, He will take you to the most amazing places.
  3. God wants to be let out of the box that we put Him in. He is the God of the universe, He is big and vast, but at the same time He is small enough to know you intimately.
  4. God wants a relationship. He doesn’t want a religion. He wants each of us to know Him and to have a relationship with Him. He will speak to you if you listen and get to know His voice. Just like you can recognize your mom or dad’s voice, you can also recognize His voice.
  5. God may not give you what you want but He will give you what you need. His plans are better than yours.
  6. God just wants to hang out with you. You don’t need to be perfect, submit the best application, or jump through hoops. He just wants to hang out with you because He is Jesus, He loves you, and that is the beauty of the Gospel. He wants you to invite Him into the big and little things in life. He wants to hang out with you ALL the time!
  7. God is fun and creative! He loves to watch His children be children.
  8. God is grace! He pursues us and loves us even though we have done nothing to deserve it. He loves us in our mess. He heals us deep down to the most broken parts of us. His grace redeems us and makes us worthy of His love.
  9. God shows up every time. You may not see it or realize it in the moment BUT He is always there and always working.
  10. God is love! That is who He is. His love is boundless, unconditional, and found in the smallest and biggest pleasures of life. His love is seen in the Cross and the sacrifice of His Son. It is also seen in the turquoise blue of the Mediterranean Sea, the laughter of friends over a glass of red wine, or getting lost in a new city.
  11. God- “You are a good, good Father. It’s who you are. I am loved by you, it’s who I am” (Housefires) God is a good, good Father and I am loved by Him. If I have learned anything this year- this is it. I am loved by a good, good Father. AND so are you! Let His love completely consume you and take over your life. Because life with God is the only way to truly live.
